Ways to overcome a bad mood.
Bad moods make us self-absorbed. No one else exists but you. When we are in a bad mood, it is a very uneasy and stressful tension. I know that it is easier said than done, but please try and overcome a bad or sad mood, as swiftly as possible.
Being in a bad mood can certainly elevate stress, anxiety, anger, frustrations and even
depression. The last thing you want to do is to bottle up your emotions, unsettling feelings
or be ill rational.
If you are in a bad mood, admit to yourself that you are in a bad mood. Deceiving yourself by going into denial will only prolong and deepen the darkness. Identify your crankiness, even if you can’t find the source of it. Whatever the cause of you being in a bad mood, you need to get a handle of it. Be gentle with yourself, especially when you feel out of sync.
We all know that bad mood can affect our sleep. If you are waking up after a restless nightmare or bad dreams, it will make you feel exhausted, drained and somewhat concerned or confused.
You are likely to snap at everyone, who comes near you or interact with you. You need to
be considerate of the people in your orbit. Respectfully tell them, you need some time alone. You may or may not know what is going on, but you know it’s best to be alone until you cool down.
Remove yourself from uncomfortable surroundings. I would suggest that the best thing to
do is to ask for a “time-out.” You need time and space to yourself to get your bearings back on track.
Whenever, I am in a bad mood, I would go for a walk and get some fresh air and gather my
thoughts. After you’ve had a good cry, gone out for a walk and have a chance to reframe your mood, breathe and give yourself time to reframe your negative thinking or physical discomfort. Be honest, it might make you feel better.
This is a fact, when our thoughts are in a negative mode, our words and attitude often match. We end up saying or doing things and we are likely to regret. During your darkness, it is especially important to watch your words and ways.
Do not compare yourself with others, especially on how they deal with their stress or mood swings. No two persons are alike. There are those, who have no care in the world. It is not because they don’t have problems; it is plain and simple that they just don’t care. They are
insensitive, uncompassionate and/or non-caring. Usually, they are self-centered individuals.
It is always about them and no one else. Please, don’t be like them.
It would be in your best interest to take a person inventory to understand yourself. Don’t get lost in over-analyzing yourself. Just take a step back and think about what is upsetting you? Are your feelings hurt from something, your spouse, lover, friend, family or boss said? Are you holding in anger? Is there a decision you need to make but don’t want to make? Give yourself time to process what you feel.
Write about what you feel. The words in your head are often hard to verbally process.
Writing is an excellent method of communicating the thoughts you cannot speak. Writing is an expression of your soul. Writing is private. It is what, I usually do to help me analyze and sort out my thoughts and moods.
Is there a lesson to be learned?
Often in your hardest moments, the greatest wisdom comes to you. It may not be
immediately but soon after. Keep your mind open to the possibility that your bad
mood might be filled with wisdom you need to have about yourself. Be your own
best friend.
If there is someone, who is close to you and you trust them, or perhaps someone who
loves you, or cares enough about you, please share your worries and concerns with them. Share it with someone, who won’t judge you, and is willing to stand beside you, and with a shoulder to lean on. If you have a ‘special someone” share your feelings with him/her, who will love you, wait for you and be there for you in your darkest hour, no matter what. Don’t knock them, If they don’t know how to handle you, or what to say. You may not be able to communicate what you feel, but just look at them, and see how much they love you.
Being in a bad mood is certainly unpleasant, but it doesn’t have to become a monstrous
event that destroys your relationships, or gets you fired. Yes, it can have a huge effect on your day, but it happens to everyone. We all know life can be tough with its ups and down. Everyone will understand; if you are true to yourself, your feelings and the people around you. We’ve all been there before. Remember, you’re never alone. Somebody cares and loves you.
