How do you overcome your fears?
We all feel fear at some time or another. It cannot be denied. Fear is a natural emotion in the face of possible danger, whether it's the risk from actions that could threaten our lives,
or from new experiences that could threaten our happiness.
When we let fear rule our lives, we miss out on opportunities and leads us to dismiss
people and situations that could help us reach our goals. Fear comes in different guises
and different forms. Fear often interferes with our ability to live more fulfilling lives.
Sometimes, we ponder on what is "real" and what is "true." Sometimes, we feel a deep need to "withdraw" and figure out where we stand. This need is necessary in order for us
to find peace and harmony that we seek in our lives.
Fear leads to doubts. When you doubt yourself, you lose all confidence in yourself.
You are likely to make the wrong choices.
Here are ways to break through and reduce your fears and doubts.
- Write down your fears and how they affect your life.
- Start asking yourself questions. What are you so fearful about and why?
- Are there things that you are holding back on? Perhaps you are frightened that you're
not good enough, or of making changes generally?
- Redefine "mistakes" and learn from them. Don't beat yourself up over mistakes you have
made in the past, and being fearful of starting new relationships, jobs, etc. That gets you
nowhere in moving forward. Call a "mistake an opportunity for learning" and seek the
learning in every "mistake."
- List your goals and the actions you need to take to achieve them every day. Every time
you do something that brings you a little closer to achieving your goals, you will feel better
about yourself and reduce your unnecessary fears.
- Seek the company of supportive people and reduce contact with those who foster
feelings of negativity and have a "fearful" approach to life.
- Your past doesn't have to define your future. Be aware of your past and be willing to
let go of it. Each day brings a new opportunity to do and think about things differently.
- Understand that you always have a choice about how to respond to and deal with fear.
You can cave into it, struggle with it, accept it or work around it. You always have a
choice or that you can change, based on your assessment of what is best for you.
- Never be afraid to jump into new experiences. The potential rewards they offer you
are unlimited; you just need to be willing to let them into your life. The secret is to
stop looking at limitations as roadblocks.
- Remember that a closed door is merely a door that hasn't been opened yet. Break
down the barriers and don't be afraid to barge right through with confidence. You
can do it.
- Often times, we take too much time to make a decision because we are afraid of
what's going to happen. As a result of this, we go through deep analysis carefully
planning the pros and cons before deciding. It can be a time consuming process.
Learn to trust your gut instinct. For the most part, your first instinct is usually the one
that is correct, or the one that you truly wanted to go with.
- You ask yourself, what's a real decision? When you make a decision, commit to making
a real decision and act on it. It's when you decide on something and that decision is
carried out through action.
- If you choose to make real changes in life, you have to make it a habit to apply action
with your decision until it's completed. The end result is you will feel more confident
with accomplishing the next decision that you have in mind. You will overcome your
fears.
- You will accomplish conquering your fears with your words through your actions.
Remember, don't put too much emphasis focusing on short term effects; instead
focus on the long term effects.
- It's a huge mistake to depend on others to make your decisions for you. There are
not living your life, you are.
- Maintain a flexible approach without putting any pressure on yourself.
Dealing with uncertainties' such as: fear of the unknown, fear of change, afraid to change the familiar to the unfamiliar can be overwhelming for most people. When things go wrong and not in your favour, or when you are faced with challenges and setbacks, don't walk away and not deal with the problems at hand. You are likely to develop a pattern of escaping from your problems instead of dealing with it. Nothing can be resolved in this manner.
You are set in your way of thinking, step back and listen and observe other ways and other avenues. Take what works for you and leave the rest. This will not happen overnight but in time it will. Get out of the normal routine and try something out of the ordinary. Take one step and change the way you look at things, see it from a different angle and see it as a lesson. That is what life is about, learning lessons and passing the test for better things. Always have good intentions and you will create a good reality.
When you acknowledge your fear and push past it, you are giving yourself a chance for
new opportunities and new beginnings. The secret is to disconnect the outcome from the process. Think about it, you cannot possibly know the outcome before you try. Nobody can! So, trust yourself and get out there and do it. Stop fearing the unknown and move forward with courage.
Through decisions making, you will learn a lot about yourself. You will feel and become a
lot more confident with yourself and around others. Anything you do from this point on can have a profound effect later on. Opportunities are always waiting for you.
